Back to school

Before talking you about our holidays, I want to explain you our back to school.

If you don't know the english system, you can check at School in London the basic things to understand it.

This year we have a huge step, Matilda begins Reception. In Uk is the year that they really begins the school, before is Nursery. In Spain it would be like 2º Infantil. And next year will be Year 1, here they begin primary school one year before than in Spain, this is because the compulsory education begins with 5 years old. For Mati, the most important thing is that she is dress up in an "uniform dress" and she is very happy. This morning when I went to dress her up she had already put the shirt for herself, so happy and so elder...

An important issue in the UK, is that the school year is until 31st of August. So if you have a kid born in the last quarter of the year, you lose one year (respect spanish system). In our case, Oli was born in November, so she doesn't begin the school this year (as she would have done in Spain) so she has to stay at the nursery. It is true that nurseries are used to have kids until they are 5 years old, so at the end they carry out the development program. I am very happy with Oli's nursery because this year she is going to have an outstanding teacher so I am sure she is going to learn a lot.

Another different thing in the UK system is that, at least at the public schools, where you don't pay anything, all donations are very welcomed as they give to you all the stationery they could need. Here they don't have books as they work with notebooks to do their homework. In Spain you need to buy a lot of books at the beginning of the year.

Tell me about your back to school, I am sure everybody lives it in a different way and I love to receive comments...
